Thick and thin infinity heart script
Lettering · Other · Black and grey · Photo
A black ink tattoo shows an infinity symbol that forms the outline of a heart, with the word thick written in script on the left and thin in script on the right. The linework is bold and even, with solid black fill and no shading. The photograph is taken close up in neutral light against a plain skin background.

The ghost train's third carriage had jumped its rail again when Dot Harrow found Eli Verrall sitting on the generator crate with a spanner across his knees and his eyes on the lorry ramp. Forty minutes to load. The fair would be gone by dawn, rolling north to a car park outside Doncaster, and he had already told her the caravan was for sale.

She didn't argue about the caravan. She climbed the steps of the big wheel's ticket hut instead, where her grandfather had kept a paint pot and a stencil cut from a cereal box. Above the door, under a slogan gone soft with damp, the old man had once painted THICK AND THIN for a showman who lost three rides to a flood and never complained about it. Everyone on the fair thought the phrase meant loyalty. Her grandfather had always said it was a dare.
Dot pulled the carpenter's pencil from behind her ear and, on the back of an inspection card, drew the loop he used to sketch for the ride tickets: a figure eight lying on its side, pinched in the middle like a waist. She wrote thick along one lobe and thin along the other, then held it out. Eli read it twice. 'That's a daft thing to draw on a safety card,' he said, but he took it from her.
He didn't sell the caravan. At half past eleven he was still under the carriage with a torch in his teeth, and when the lorries pulled out at dawn the card stayed pinned above the ticket hut, the loop bleeding faintly where the rain had got in, both words still legible.
