Three starter Pokémon with leaves and flames
Neo-trad · Forearm · Colour · Photo
A colour tattoo shows three Pokémon starters: Squirtle in blue at the top, Bulbasaur in teal on the right and Charmander in orange at the bottom. They are set among green leaves, with a stylised orange and yellow flame trail on the left and blue splashes behind Squirtle. Bold dark outlines and smooth blended shading give the figures volume against the skin.

Ahtu had been told the kiln would not light until the water came back, so he sat on the canal wall with his feet in the cracked mud, watching three creatures squabble over a fish head. The blue one was the size of a cooking pot and wore its shell like a helmet. The green one had a bulb on its back that opened when it was pleased. The smallest, the orange one, held its tail up like a torch, and each time it blinked, the flame at its tip flared and then settled.

The apprentices at the temple said the creatures had come down from the hills in the year the river shrank. Nobody claimed them. They ate from the rubbish heaps behind the potters' row and slept in the warm ash of the kilns, which is why the potter's widow, Shamhat, had given up scolding them.
On the seventh day the blue one dragged itself into the canal, shell first, and the water rose to meet it. Ahtu had never seen water come up to meet anything. It spread over the mud in a silver sheet and filled the cracks, and the green one climbed onto the wall beside him and pressed its bulb against his wrist. Where it touched, a vine threaded out of the clay, thin as a reed and bright as new bronze.
Shamhat came running with a wet cloth over her head. The orange one had already crawled into the kiln mouth, its tail burning so fiercely that the firing chamber glowed before anyone had lit a single log. Ahtu lifted the first tablet of the season onto the shelf, still soft, and watched the water and the leaves and the fire settle into the clay together. By dusk the wall was full of green shoots, and the canal was deep enough to swim.
