Tiny fine line wrist tattoos on two hands
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Two hands are held together against a plain white background, with the wrists turned toward the camera. Each wrist carries a small, single-stroke black curved mark, drawn in delicate fine linework with no shading. The ink is black, and the composition is a clean close crop that keeps the focus on the two tattoos.

You took the left half of the tin crescent when you went, the one Mam cut from the lid of the tea caddy so we could tell our coats apart at Whitsun fair. I have kept the right half stitched inside my cuff since. Last night a drover with a cough asked me what the little curve on my wrist was meant to be. I said it was a gate, then a boat, then I said it was nothing, and he laughed and paid for his bed in coppers.
The pass keeps its own hours. Yesterday the bell on the far cairn rang twice with no wind to move it, which Ma always said meant someone was coming up who did not want to be seen. Nobody came. The fire has been banked, and the kettle sings the same three notes every evening, and I find I know that tune better now than I know your voice.
When the thaw opens the road I will walk down with my wrist turned up to the light, the way you used to hold yours when we were small and wanted to be found in a crowd. Keep your half where it is. We will see whether the two curves still close.
