Traditional panther and flower leg tattoos

Traditional · Thigh · Colour · Photo

The photograph shows a leg covered in bold traditional style tattoos, including a dark panther head with red eyes, a large purple flower with a red centre and teal stems, and outlined red hearts. The panther is shaded in greys and black with heavy outlines, while the flower and stems use flat, saturated colour. The leg fills most of the frame against a leopard print background, with a hand and a tub of ice cream cropped in the lower left.

Sit nearer the stove, you lot, and mind the kettle, because this is the one about Mab Corrigan and the panther that came down off the fells in the hard winter of the flood.

Nobody in Tollbridge had seen a panther before, and nobody agreed on what it was. The carter said it was a shadow with a grudge. The vicar said it was a black dog that had been somewhere sinful and come back sulking. Mab said nothing. She just put a saucer of milk on the lock gate every night, and every morning the saucer was empty and a purple flower with a red heart was lying on the wet timber beside it, its stalk bound in green wool.

Now the lock-keeper's wife was a hard woman, and she wanted that cat gone. She set a trap of barbed wire and tallow, and she sat up on the towpath with the old duck gun across her knees. Mab came out at dawn to find her frozen to the bone, and found the panther lying across her boots like a warm coat, its eyes lit red as coals in the grey light.

That is the trouble with the wicked, see. They keep waiting for something to bite them, and it never comes. The wife walked home and never lifted a hand against that gate again. The flowers kept coming, one a week, until the spring melt, when the canal ran clear and the panther strolled off up the hill into the mist. Mab kept the last flower pressed in her Bible. Ask to see it sometime, if the vicar will let you near it.
