Two cartoon tattoos on shoulders
Shoulder · Colour · Photo
Two people sit back to the camera, showing bare shoulders and upper backs. The left shoulder blade carries a blue cartoon character with large ears, drawn with soft outlines and smooth shading. A small pink cartoon creature curls on the right shoulder, also in a soft, clean colour style. The dark background keeps the focus on the two tattoos against the skin.

In the kingdom of Harrowmere, where the rivers ran uphill on feast days, the king's cook had a blue creature in her kitchen that nobody had ordered. It had ears like the flat leaves of water lilies and it ate the crusts off every loaf before breakfast. Its name, the cook decided, was Tuck, because it tucked itself into the warm cupboard beneath the oven each night and hummed at the bread.

The trouble began when the miller's daughter, Ysolde Frane, came up the hill with a pink thing curled in her apron pocket. It was no bigger than a mitten and it had lost its way from the beehives. It unrolled when she set it on the table, then rolled back into a tight pink spiral, like a sleeping dog. Tuck sniffed it once and sat up very straight, which the cook had never seen it do.
For seven days the two of them sat side by side on the windowsill and argued in small clicks and squeaks that the cook learned to understand. The pink one wanted to go back to the orchard. Tuck wanted the bread. On the eighth morning the cook found the windowsill empty, the cupboard door open, and a trail of crumbs leading out to the orchard gate.
She followed it. At the gate the pink creature had unrolled itself across the stones and was pointing one soft end at the hill. Tuck was already halfway up, ears spread wide to catch the wind, and when it looked back it did not wave but simply waited. The cook took off her apron, folded it over the gatepost, and went after them both.
