Two wolf heads on forearms
Dotwork · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
Two wolf heads face the viewer, one on each forearm, with fur and muzzle shading built from fine stippled dots and bold outlines. Dotted triangles sit behind and beneath each head as geometric accents. The tattoos are in black and grey on pale skin against a dark background, with the arms angled close together.

Grandad Ned kept two carved wolf stones in the porch, cut by a man from Keswick who owed him money. One faced east over the beck and one faced west over the wall, and he never let us shift them. When I asked why, he said two things that look at each other across a boundary keep each other honest, then laughed at his own joke for a long time.
Tom and Maud walked out between the marquee poles at four, arm in arm, and the rain stopped as if someone had lifted a latch. Maud stopped at the porch where the stones stood. She laid her palm flat on the east one, then the west one, and said something I didn't catch. Tom just grinned. Afterwards she told me she had only been checking they were still facing the same way.
We found the stones turned to face each other the next morning, though nobody would own to it. Dad blamed the frost. I think Maud had it right: some things only need a small nudge to find they were looking for each other all along.
