Two black and grey wolf head tattoos in dotwork style on forearms, each framed by fine dotted triangle lines.

Two wolf head forearm tattoos

Dotwork · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo

Two wolf heads are tattooed side by side on the inner forearms of two arms, each shown in profile and facing forward. The heads are built from stippled dotwork shading with bold outlines, and the eyes and nose are left with stark dark accents. Fine dotted lines form a triangle behind each wolf, and the black background makes the greyscale tones stand out.

Sit closer, and mind the lamp, it has been spitting since the frost came in. This garden was walled before my grandmother's grandmother had teeth, and the old wall still remembers the wolves that came down off the fells the winter the apple trees split.

There were two of them, a dog and his sister, both grey as wet slate, and they had lived so long in each other's shadow that the villagers could not tell which one had taken the miller's goat. The sister had the sharp eyes and the good nose. The brother had the patience. Together they learned the lanes and the drains and which gate the gardener forgot to bar, and every night they walked the stone edge of the orchard while the dark pooled between the trunks like spilt ink.

Then the hunters came with three iron traps and set them in the snow where the wolves always crossed, their jaws laid out in a point like the corners of a star. The sister saw the first one and stopped. Her brother did not. He had already lifted his foot, and she caught his ruff in her teeth and held him back until the cold made both of them shake.

Thick snow fell that night, and in the morning the hunters found nothing but two sets of prints running side by side, never once crossing the line of the traps. They say the brother never walked alone again, and neither did she, and if you look at the wall tomorrow you will see the frost still makes dotted lines there, only where they have been.
