Ursa minor constellation design with script
Lettering · Colour · Flash
The image shows the Ursa minor constellation, drawn as seven bright white stars joined by thin lines against a deep blue gradient sky with small scattered stars. Below the sky panel, the words ursa minor appear in a clean printed font and again in a cursive script. The composition is a simple, centred layout on a white border, like a design sample sheet.

The lamps at the Kessel Gap went out at ten, and by midnight the guard in the hut had stopped pretending to check anyone's papers. You wait behind a boulder with your pack straps cutting into your shoulders and count the stars instead, the way Oma taught you on the roof of the bakery.

Seven of them, bright enough to cut through the smoke drifting up from the valley. Find the two pointers at the end of the bowl first, then follow them up to the pole star at the tip of the little bear's tail, the one star that never moves while everything else turns around it. She used to say a border was only a line someone drew while looking down. The sky has never had that problem.
You are halfway across the scree when a torch snaps on behind you. The guard is a young man with a bad cold, and he sweeps the beam across your face and asks where you think you're going at this hour. You tell him the truth: home, the long way round. He doesn't answer straight away. He looks up at the thin white hook of stars above the ridge, and you watch his finger trace it in the air the way children do.
He clicks the torch off. 'Mind the loose stones,' he says. 'They're worse than they look in the dark.' Behind you the little bear keeps its slow circle around the pole, and you keep walking, the star steady at your shoulder all the way down to the other side.
