Wolf, honeycomb and blossom leg tattoo
Geometric · Calf · Mixed · Photo
Three photographs show a leg tattoo running from the calf down to the ankle. A wolf's head with blue eyes sits at the centre, surrounded by pink cherry blossoms, honeycomb hexagons and a fine-lined geometric structure above, with an outlined snake near the ankle. The shading uses soft dotwork and grey wash behind the wolf, while the flowers and honeycomb are filled in with pink, orange and green.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
Sit closer, and mind the skep, it is older than your mother. The orchard above the mill belonged to a widow called Ysolde Harrow, and she kept bees the way other women keep grudges, carefully and for life. Every spring the cherry trees went white, and every spring the bees climbed the hill to drink the blossom and came down heavy with gold.

In the hungry year a wolf came down from the moor, grey as wet ash, with eyes as blue as a frozen pond. It did not take the lambs. It sat at the hive mouth each evening and counted the bees going in, the way a miser counts coins, and it never once stole a drop of honey. Ysolde asked it what it wanted. The wolf answered only by lifting its muzzle toward the crescent moon, which hung over the hill like a sickle someone had forgotten to put away.
Then came the adder. It slid out from under the cellar stones, its scales drawn in a net of six-sided cells, and it wanted the comb. The wolf wanted the adder. Between them stood the widow with a candle and a wooden spoon, and she was not frightened, because her grandmother had taught her that a hive is only as strong as the cells that hold it. So she bargained. She gave the adder the outer ring of comb, wax the colour of old amber, and she gave the wolf the honey that had dripped down the stones like a sunset. The middle she kept for the queen.
By morning the blossom had fallen across both their paths, pink as a promise, and the wolf lay curled at the hive door while the adder drowsed among the petals. Hush now. The bees are listening, and they never trust a story that ends too neatly.
