Yin and yang with script quote

Lettering · Black and grey · Flash

A digital design of two yin and yang symbols set beside two lines of cursive script on a plain white background. The left symbol is solid black and the right has a thin black outline, both with a small contrasting dot. The lettering is fine black script with smooth, even strokes, arranged so the text sits diagonally across the composition.

Joe, the Bramleys are coming down heavy this year, so I've had the Hollis boys up the ladders since five. Don't wake yourself when you get in, though I know you'll try. The old Blenheim by the wall has gone two ways this summer. The side facing the lane is blushed and sweet, while the other side stays green and sharp, as if the sun forgot it was there. Dad used to say you couldn't have one face of a tree without the other, that it needs both to feed itself. I never believed him. Yesterday I stood under it with the basket on my hip and thought about the night road you drive, the lamps of the lorries coming at you one after another, and how you still come home and tell me about the wasps as if they were the great news of the world.

Tomorrow the tree is all mine. I'll pick the green side and the red and tip them into the same crate without sorting a single one. Come to the stile at dusk when your shift ends. I'll have a pippin cut through the middle, sitting on the wall, and you can show me again how the seeds lie in their five little rooms, one pale beside one dark.

Yours in the dew, Nell. P.S. The wasps have had the windfalls. Leave them be.
