Yin yang ankle tattoos on two legs
Ankle · Black and grey · Photo
Two legs rest on a blue bedspread with black shoes beside them. The tattoo on the upper foot is a solid black yin yang, while the one on the lower leg is an outlined yin yang with a simple thin line. Both are small and sit close to the ankle, and the image is in black ink only.

Sit down, the lot of you, and mind the lamp oil. Aye, I'll tell it again, though you've heard it from your fathers. Out on Carraig Bheag there were two keepers in the old days, Tom Hallet and Ned Pollard, and they could not abide each other. Tom painted his half of the gallery rail black because he said the sea deserved some honesty. Ned chalked his half round the edge in thin white lines, because he said a man ought to be able to see where his own ground stopped.

For eleven winters they shared the stair and the stove and not one civil word passed between them. Then the relief boat failed to come in the big February gale, and the pair of them were left on the rock with a cracked lens and a coal store that would not last. Tom took the fever by the second week. Ned sat up with him, and each night he trimmed the wick, and each night Tom, half asleep, told him the wick was too high. Ned never once answered back.
When the boat finally came, Tom was on his feet, grumbling at the cook. Ned walked down to the landing with his bag on his shoulder and stopped at the turn of the path. He looked back up at the tower, at the black rail and the white outline beside it, and laughed until he had to sit on a rock. The rail was never repainted, and Ned's chalk was never rubbed out. Ask at the harbour and they'll show you the two shapes still side by side, one filled, one drawn, both turning, neither able to finish without the other.
