Always script with Deathly Hallows on wrist
Lettering · Other · Black and grey · Photo
The photograph shows a black ink tattoo on the inner wrist, with the word Always in flowing script beside a Deathly Hallows symbol made of a triangle, circle and vertical line. The linework is smooth and solid, with no shading and no colour. The pale skin and plain background keep the focus on the tattoo.

Dearest Ilse, the ferry no longer runs past the Saltmarrow flats, so I write from the inn at Corrow Ford, where the landlady has promised me a dry bed and only two lies a day. The surveyors have finished the eastern charts. Master Hobb wanted the three hills drawn as one triangle, which I thought foolish until I saw them from the ridge at dusk, standing in a row like men who had quarrelled and then forgiven one another.

The ring stone is still there, a grey circle of rock in the bracken above the ford. The old men say that anyone who crawls through it at midsummer will see their own grave, which I did not try. Hobb dropped a plumb line from the peak straight through the stone's centre and marked the spot with a blue cross. Beneath his cross was a faded one, made two hundred years back by the first surveyor, and he showed me both as if the land itself had been keeping a record.
Last night I asked him why the line mattered. He said a map is only a promise that you will find your way home, and that the cross is there so whoever comes after will know where the road bends. Then he poured me a cup of cider and told me to write it down properly, because my letters have been all loops and no sense. So here it is, plainly: the road bends at the stone. Keep the lamp lit in the window on Tanner's Row.
I will be back before the thaw, mud and weather allowing. Tell Mother the cross is blue and the hills are green, and that I have not lost the chart. Always, Tobias.
