Always script with Deathly Hallows symbol on wrist
Lettering · Other · Black and grey · Photo
The tattoo shows the word Always in flowing, joined black script, with a Deathly Hallows symbol on the left made of a triangle, a circle and a vertical line. The linework is solid and even in black ink with no shading or colour. The design fills the centre of the frame against plain skin, photographed from above.

Dear Lucia, do not scold me for the cracked wax. My hands are still unsteady from the ford at Tamesis, where I spent yesterday arguing with a ferryman who would not take Roman coin. He wanted a story instead, so I gave him the one Grandmother told us, about three brothers who crossed a black river at night and met Death on the far bank.

He laughed at the eldest brother's stone that could call back the dead, and nodded at the second's wand that could kill from any distance. When I reached the third brother, who asked only for a cloak to hide him from Death, the old man stopped rowing. He dipped his oar in the mud and drew three shapes on the planks: a triangle, a circle set within it, and a single upright line through both. Then he wrote a word beside them in a looping hand I could hardly follow, and tapped it twice.
I asked what it meant. He said the cloak was never the gift that mattered. The brother who lived longest was the one who came back to this bank each evening to row the next traveller across, so Death, who is always waiting, could never quite catch him. Then he pushed off and left me standing in the reeds with my sandals full of river water.
I have scratched the word on the tablet beneath this letter, the way he wrote it, and I am sending it to you with the coin I owe him. Keep the coin, Lucia, and keep the tablet close. I will be home before the harvest, and when I walk through the gate I will not be bringing a cloak.
