Ariel from The Little Mermaid tattoos, four examples
Thigh · Colour · Photo
This collage shows four photographs of tattoos based on Ariel from Disney's The Little Mermaid, with Flounder, Prince Eric and a ship also appearing in the bottom-left example. The designs use bold black outlines with soft watercolour washes in red, pink, blue and green, and some have a loose, sketchy finish. Each photo is framed differently, with the tattoos sitting on the thigh or side of the torso against plain skin.

Right, shush, the lot of you, and pass that crisp packet down before someone eats it. Where was I? Oh yes, the girl with hair the colour of a rusty kettle, swimming up past the wrecks off the harbour wall. Every night from the fourteenth floor of Harbour House she'd look down at the water, and every night the water looked back.

Her name was Wren, and she kept a shell under her pillow the size of a dinner plate, pearly pink at the lip, and in it she hid the treasures she'd pulled from the sunken ships: a brass compass with no needle, a tin of hard sweets gone to stone, a china doll with one eye. Her friend was a flounder called Pim, yellow as a school bus and twice as nervous, who swore he'd seen a ship come in with a prince on the bow, waving at nobody.
The prince, Edwin, was the reason she wanted legs. Not to dance at the Saturday disco, not to walk the promenade, but to stand on his deck and ask him what he'd done with the tin of sweets he'd dropped in the shallows. Pim said that was a daft reason. Wren said it was the only one she had.
So she went up. The lift was broken, so she climbed sixteen flights of wet stairs, and at the top the ship had gone, and in its place a gull stood on the railing, eyeing the chest she'd left behind. Keep it, the gull said, and dropped the compass into the sea.
