Bachelorette temporary tattoo mix pack
Lettering · Colour · Flash
The image shows a product sheet for a set of temporary tattoo designs, arranged in a grid on a white background. The designs are lettering and simple motifs, including three diamond rings, a heart and a ring outline, rendered in metallic gold and silver foil. A pink peony sits in the top right corner, and the bold gold title Bachelorette sits above the set.

Maureen had printed three days on the back of every sheet, in small letters under the instructions, and by the Sunday the gold on the diamond rings had worn thin enough to show the grey beneath. The word Single had begun to lift off its heart, so the whole sheet looked like a joke somebody had stopped telling halfway through. She ran the stall at the end of Margate pier, selling cheap novelties to hen parties, and she had long since given up explaining to the brides that foil wears out faster than they expect.

Tessa came back at noon, arm held out like evidence. Three of her four rings had gone, and the one left was a ring outline with a broken line across its band. "They came off in the sea," she said. "I was only paddling."
"Nobody paddles in those shoes," Maureen said, and Tessa laughed despite herself, and then her face folded and she sat down on the upturned crate beside the till. The bride was in a guesthouse on Addington Street with her mother, Tessa said. She had asked for something that said Love in gold so she could wear it to the reception, and Tessa had wanted something that would last longer than the speeches.
Maureen didn't offer a refund. She took a fresh sheet from the drawer, peeled a single gold Love from its backing, and pressed it onto the inside of Tessa's forearm, smoothing it outwards from the middle with the flat of her thumb, slowly, the way her own mother had taught her to lay a sticker on a shop window. "Slow is the trick," she said. "Rush it and the edges lift."
Tessa stood up at last and held her arm to the light. The word held, bright against the cold wind off the sea, and all the way back along the pier it was the one thing she kept glancing at.
