Colour tattoo of a smiling cartoon alien waving from a pink flying saucer above the words Take Me Away, with stars and hearts, on a limb.

Cartoon alien in a pink flying saucer

Other · Colour · Photo

A cartoon alien with large eyes and a blushing smile waves from a glass dome on a pink flying saucer with yellow portholes and green landing legs. The words TAKE ME AWAY sit in bold black lettering above, with a purple heart, orange and yellow stars and small dotted trails beneath. Bold black outlines and flat, bright pastel and primary colour fills give the piece a playful, illustrative look.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

Sit down by the fire and stop your fidgeting, because I'm telling this one the way my grandmother told it to me, standing on the pass at Bwlch Gwyn with the wind trying to take her hat. It was the wet week after the sheep sale, and Dafydd Pritchard was coming over the top in the fog with his dog and a flask of tea gone cold. The fog lifted for about a minute, and there, hanging over the cattle grid, was a saucer as pink as a boiled sweet, with yellow portholes all round its belly and green legs folded under it like a heron's.

Behind the glass dome sat a little grey fellow with enormous black eyes and a smile that could only be described as bashful. He waved at the dog. The dog, being a sensible animal, did not wave back. Then the alien pressed a small purple heart against the inside of the dome, and the words TAKE ME AWAY lit up across the sky in letters as tall as the chapel door, and orange stars came spinning off them like sparks from a bonfire.

Now, Dafydd was a practical man, so he did what any practical man would do. He asked the creature where in the world it was trying to get to. It pointed at the stars, then at the bracken, then at its own empty pocket, and Dafydd understood at once that it was lost and had been waiting on the pass since the Tuesday. So he gave it a lift as far as the gate and no further, because he had sheep to count. The saucer dipped, scattered a trail of dots across the heather, and was gone.

The children of the valley still find those dots in the springtime, and if you're lucky you'll find a purple heart pressed flat in the moss beside them.
