Cartoon potato head tattoo on the hand

Hand · Mixed · Photo

The tattoo shows a cartoon potato head character wearing a flat cap, with a moustache, two arms and two shoes drawn around the body. The linework is a bold, even black outline, and the head is filled with a flat tan or brown tone. The design sits centrally on a light skin surface, with a little body hair visible at the top edge of the frame.

Dear Dennis,

Your father has taken the cap off the potato man and hung it on the back of the kitchen door, where it has stayed since the Skerrow show. You will want to know about that. The Captain, as the men insist on calling him, took first in the Best Single Tuber class, beating the Macleans' pink fir apple by a full inch, and he did it with a moustache I drew on in biro the night before the judging. The judge, a tired man from the mainland who had never seen an island tattie in his life, stood a long while looking at him, then asked who had done the face.

Nobody told him. Your father said it was the wind, and the wind here has a great deal to answer for.

The ferry is late again, so the seed order has not come, and we will be planting the last drills with whatever is left in the cellar. I have put two of the Captain's eyes aside in a saucer on the sill. Should we have a bad year, he can start again from them, and I shall draw his cap on fresh. Tell Mhairi the shoes on him are wrong, as usual, and I have decided to leave them that way.

Love, Mam
