Choose joy hand lettering design
Lettering · Black and grey · Flash
The image shows the words choose joy written in flowing hand-lettered script, stacked on two lines. The strokes are bold and brushlike, with a textured grey edge that suggests watercolour or ink wash. The lettering is centred on a plain white background with generous empty space around it.

The last lord of Hollin Tor had shut his hall against the weather and the tax men, and for seven winters nobody went up past the gatehouse. Mab Dunning went up anyway, because her goat had squeezed through a gap in the wall and would not come down for bread or for threats.

Inside she found the great hall roofless, ferns growing out of the hearth, and a man sitting on the steps with his head in his hands. He was the lord's younger brother, the story goes, and he had been sitting there since the funeral. He asked her what she wanted. She said her goat. He said the goat was welcome to the ruins, and so was she, if she could bear to be sad in company.
She stayed through the thaw. They drew water from the well, scraped moss off the chapel stones, and argued over whether the swallows nesting in the arrow slits counted as tenants. Each morning he told her something gloomy, and each morning she answered with something small and bright: a blackbird's song, the smell of bread, the goat standing on the bell rope. By midsummer his shoulders had come down from his ears.
When the tax men finally climbed the hill, they found a woman with flour on her wrists and a man cutting letters into the lintel above the gate. Two lines, one word on each. They asked what it meant. Mab told them it was an order, not a wish, and that anyone who came up the hill would be expected to obey it.
