"it is well" script lettering design
Lettering · Black and grey · Flash
A black script lettering design reading "it is well" sits in the lower right of a plain white background. The monoline strokes are smooth and even with a slight variation in weight, and a thin horizontal line runs above the word "it". The image uses only black ink on white, with no shading or colour.

Dear Marguerite, the sea has finally gone flat as a bedsheet and I have stopped being sick, so you may stop worrying that I have thrown myself over the rail. The purser says we will raise the Cape in nine days if the wind holds, and the bosun says it never holds, which is the only thing about this ship I trust completely.

I have been writing your name on the back of the chart table cards because there is nothing else to write on. Yesterday the second mate caught me at it and asked what the words were for. I told him they were the three I had decided to live by until we reached land, and he laughed and said that was a sailor's whole creed in five letters less than most. I did not tell him the rest, which is that I copied them from the lid of the tin your mother sent with the seed cake, the one with the thin rule drawn above the first word like a shelf for it to sit on.
If the letters come out crooked when I finally have ink that will not run, forgive me. The swell has a way of tipping the pen. Tell your mother the cake was gone by the Azores, and that the boys ate it before I could hide the crumbs. Tell her the lettering on the tin is the one thing I will carry off this ship without anyone's permission.
Write back to Port Stanley. I will be there before the post is.
Your loving brother, Tom
