Crescent moon and arrow on a forearm
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A black fine line tattoo shows a crescent moon set inside a thin circle, with a diagonal arrow passing through it and two diamond shapes and small dots below. The linework is even and uniform, with no shading and no colour. The design sits near the wrist on a pale forearm, photographed against a plain light background with a dark fabric edge at the left.

The guard at Halfmoon Ford kept one lamp and one rule: nobody crossed after the bell without a stone in their pocket. Tomas had no stone. Ilse, who ran the eel traps below the weir, came up the bank with her shawl over her head. She did not ask what he carried. She pulled a thin iron pin from her hair and pressed it into his palm. 'Hold it flat against the sky,' she said. 'The moon will show you where the ground is. Go where the pin points, not where your feet want to go.'
He went in up to his knees. The moon lay broken on the river, a bright rim with a dark body inside it, and the pin tugged him left, then right, then left again, always toward a row of stones that broke the surface like diamonds. Where he set his feet, small dark spots showed on the water, and he set them there. The lamp shrank behind him until it was a coin. Halfway over, the salt grew heavy and he nearly let it go, but the pin turned warm in his fist and he kept walking.
His brother was waiting on the far bank with his arms folded. 'You came by the stones?' he asked. Tomas nodded and held out the sack. When he looked at the pin again it had bent in his grip, its point now aimed back at the water he had crossed.
