Deathly Hallows symbol on upper back
Geometric · Back · Black and grey · Photo
A photograph of the upper back of a person wearing a purple top, with a single tattoo of the Deathly Hallows symbol: an upright triangle enclosing a circle with a vertical line through it. The linework is clean and even in a single slate-grey ink, with no shading. The tattoo sits near the shoulder blade and is the clear focal point against the soft, out-of-focus background.

Three brothers came to the ford at Carrow just as the water rose over the stones, and the ferryman, who was old and had seen too much, would take only what he was owed. The eldest, proud and quick, asked for a staff that could never be beaten. The ferryman cut him a length of ash from the bank and told him it would win every fight he ever had, and so it did, until the night he struck his own hound in the dark and found nobody left to fight.

The second brother asked for a stone that would bring back the dead. The ferryman rubbed a pebble from the river between his fingers and gave it over. It was smooth and cold and warmed nothing but his palm. He carried it for forty years, turning it over at the hearth, and never once did he call anyone back. Each night he set it on the sill where his wife used to sit, and each morning he put it in his pocket again.
The youngest brother was the cleverest, and he asked for nothing he could hold. The ferryman smiled and gave him a grey cloak woven from rain, which hid him from whoever came looking, and the young man walked off into the hills under it. He lived to be very old and died in his own bed, which was the one thing the ferryman had never thought to sell.
