Forgiven script lettering design
Lettering · Black and grey · Flash
The image shows the word "forgiven." written in a flowing, joined cursive script with a full stop at the end. It is drawn in a single thin black line on a plain white background with no body or skin visible. The monoline strokes have even weight and the composition is centred with generous empty space around the word.

The northbound was already breathing at the platform when Maud Pellow found the label in the lost property tin, folded twice and gone soft at the corners. It was the old buff card with a brass eyelet, and someone had written across it in a hand so joined and careful that she read the word before she read the name. Forgiven, full stop. Underneath, in smaller letters: Edwin Tarrant, to be left at Carrow Bridge until called for.

Her grandmother had kept the station before her, and her grandmother's rule had been plain. Anything handed in for a passenger who never came to claim it stayed in the tin, and the tin stayed on the high shelf in the booking office, because trains bring people back. A thing left long enough will find its owner walking up the platform. You only have to be there when they do.
Edwin Tarrant did not come in forty-one years. Then, on the last Thursday of October, a man in a grey coat stood at the hatch and asked whether anything had been left for him. Maud took the tin down, found the card, and slid it across the wood. He read it once. He did not ask what it meant, and she did not offer to say. He sat on the bench under the clock with the card on his knee and watched the lamps come on along the line.
The 6.10 pulled out with its doors shut and nobody getting off. When Maud looked again, the bench was empty and the card lay face down on the wood, the pencil showing faintly through the back where the full stop had been pressed hard.
