Four flash designs on a light background
Dotwork · Black and grey · Flash
The sheet shows four separate tattoo designs in a grid: a cracked tombstone with the word HOPE, a dagger with a scrolled script reading Sad Truth, a hanging rope loop with sparkles and the words Sweet Dreams, and a rose with a basketball centre and leaves, lettered Still Ballin. The linework is bold and uniform, with the tombstone shaded in stipple dots that fade toward the base. All four designs use only black ink and greys on a pale background, with no body part visible.

Past the last sheep field, where the road gave up, stood a castle that had lost its roof to a hard winter and its lord to a longer one. Nobody in Caddon Vale would go near the gatehouse after dark, but the miller's girl, Ysolde, went most evenings with a bag of bread and a ball of scrap leather she had stitched herself. High on the stones hung an iron hoop, rusted to a ring, and she had never once got a ball through it.

Her grandmother said the lord's wife had sworn the gate would hold until the ground beneath it cracked open. It cracked in the spring. A briar rose came up through the seam in the arch, pale and stubborn, and over the summer its roots pushed the old carved word on the lintel apart until only the letters H, O and P were still readable.
On the last evening of August the wind dropped and the girl carried her ball up to the hoop. She missed twice. The third throw rang off the iron and dropped clean through, the leather striking the cobbles with a sound like a door closing softly. Nobody cheered, because nobody was there, but the rose shook its petals loose all at once, and each one settled on the stones like a small, deliberate hand.
When she came home late, her grandmother only looked at the leaves caught in her hair and nodded. "Well," she said, "the old wall has heard worse."
