Gemini zodiac symbol with star and arrow
Forearm · Mixed · Photo
A bold black Gemini zodiac symbol sits across the forearm, with a thin yellow ring and faint radiating lines above it. A small outlined star and a red arrow curve around the lower part of the symbol. The black linework is solid and heavy, while the red and yellow areas are flat colour fills, and the design is shown against plain skin with a dark sleeve at the left edge.

They were born in a Sheffield terrace in the winter of 1961, during a storm that took the chimney pot clean off. Their mother kept a brass ring hanging on the bedpost, a cheap thing from a fairground, and the doctor swore it caught the lamplight and made a halo over the pair of them. Ray was the one who ran. By nine he had painted a red arrow on the cellar wall, pointing up the steps to the street, and by sixteen he had taken the coach to the coast with Aldous's savings in his boot. Aldous stayed. He minded their mother through two strokes and a hard winter, and he kept the cellar arrow in the sun for thirty years because he said somebody ought to know the way.
Ray went to sea. The postcards came from ports nobody could spell, each one with a little outlined star drawn in the corner, as if he were marking where he'd got to. The last one arrived the week Aldous buried their mother. It said only, Still pointing.
There, the lamp at the end of the corridor has flickered again. Hear that? Old building. Anyway, that's the arrow and the star. The halo never belonged to either of them, you understand. It just hung over the place where they were both going to end up.
