Infinity arrow with semicolon on wrist
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A single arrow runs diagonally through a horizontal infinity symbol on the wrist, with the arrowhead at the upper right and the fletching at the lower left. A small semicolon sits at the right end of the infinity loop. The linework is thin and even in solid black ink, with no shading or colour, and the tattoo is centred against a plain skin background.

Brother Anselm had copied the same line of the Psalter three times before he understood the trouble was not his hand. The ink ran thin in the cold of the scriptorium, and the abbot had already sent back two gatherings with a sniff. Outside, the bell for Terce rang across the wet fields, and Anselm pressed his wrist flat against the vellum to steady it.

Beside him, old Brother Oswin was cutting a quill with a knife no wider than a fingernail. "You stop for breath in the middle of a sentence," Oswin said without looking up. "That's no sin. The Lord made stops for that."
"Stops are for the weak," Anselm muttered, though he had been trying to recall the name of the little mark with a dot above a tail. Oswin tapped a sheet with his blade. There: a pause between two thoughts that were not finished yet, a mark that promised the sentence would go on rather than end.
Anselm had been given the scriptorium because he once painted the abbey's arrow sigil on a bell-rope and the bishop liked it. Now he drew it again in the margin, looping a line into the eight that lay on its side, then sending a single shaft straight through the crossing. Beside the arrowhead he set the small stop, not a full point. The arrow kept going. The loop kept coming back. When the abbot came to inspect, he frowned at the drawing, then at the mark, and said nothing at all, which Anselm took as the first blessing he had received in a month.
