Gold and teal metallic temporary tattoos on arms

Forearm · Colour · Photo

A woman with long blonde hair, shown from the lips down to her arms, wears several metallic temporary tattoos. The designs include an ornate medallion on the wrist, a star and vine band on the upper arm, chain-link bracelets and scalloped bands in gold and teal. The fine, mostly outlined linework sits on tanned skin against a turquoise fabric, with the arms crossed in the foreground.

The officer behind the glass was a thin man with a pencil tucked behind one ear. He held a sheet up to the sun, and the largest medallion threw a bright coin onto his knuckles. For a moment he looked younger, like someone counting stars on a wrist. "Vine pattern," he said, tracing a curl with his thumb. "My mother wore one like this to the wedding at Sarn, before the rains took the orchards." He asked the price. I told him what Ines had told me, and he laughed so hard the man behind me sighed.

He did not stamp the sheet. He tore off the strip of scallops, peeled the backing with his teeth, and pressed it along the inside of his own forearm, just above the cuff of his uniform. Then he slid the rest of the tin back across the counter and waved the next car forward.

When I reached the far barrier, I looked back through the mirror. He was still holding his arm up to the light, turning it slowly, as though the gold might hold him together until the end of his shift.
