Gold and teal metallic temporary tattoos of ornate patterns, star chains and beaded bracelets on a woman's wrist and forearm.

Metallic gold and teal temporary tattoos on forearm

Forearm · Colour · Photo

A close crop of a woman with long blonde hair, showing only her lips, chin and raised hand. Her wrist and forearm carry metallic gold and teal temporary tattoos, including an ornate medallion pattern, a chain of small stars, and beaded bracelet lines with a lace-like band. The fine outlines and flat metallic fills sit against tanned skin, with a white patterned top and a turquoise blanket in the background.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

The lift at Denmark House had been broken since March, so I took the stairs with the box under my arm, fourteen floors of concrete and somebody's dinner smells. Inside was Mum's old stock, a shoebox of metallic transfers she'd kept from her Saturday stall on the Kingsway, sheets of gold and teal she sold for a pound a strip to girls who wanted to look like they'd been somewhere hot.

Nobody on the fourteenth floor wanted to look like they'd been anywhere. Mr Achebe on the landing said the council would fix the lift when the Pope visited. I told him I was only going up to the roof to find some wind. He gave me a look that meant he knew I was going to do something daft with those sheets.

What I did was peel off a medallion, the lacy one with the teal drop at its centre, and press it to the steel doors. Then I ran a chain of tiny stars down the wall beside the dead buttons and finished with a row of beads along the rail. By the time I was done the whole landing looked dressed for a wedding. Mrs Adeyemi came up the stairs with her shopping, stopped dead, and laughed so hard she had to sit on the bottom step.

The lift still doesn't run. But every morning the stairwell window throws its light across the doors and the gold goes bright, and people pause a second before pressing a button that isn't there. Mum would have charged them a pound for the look of it.
