Gold Team Bride temporary tattoo on wrist

Lettering · Forearm · Colour · Photo

A hand and wrist are shown with a metallic gold temporary tattoo reading Team with the word bride in a looped handwritten script, underlined with a sweeping stroke. The lettering is smooth and bold, with the Team text set in spaced capitals above. A soft pink paper flower sits at the left edge against a pale grey background.

The gold transfers came in a flat cardboard box that smelt of printer ink, and by half past nine on Friday morning Nell had already spoiled two of them. She had peeled the backing too fast, so the little capitals of TEAM came away in a scatter like filings, and she sat on the kitchen step of the holiday flat trying to stick the last letter back down with a damp square of kitchen roll.

Upstairs the hen party was still asleep, or pretending to be. Maureen, the bride's auntie, had strung pink crepe flowers along the balcony rail the night before, and one had worked loose and tapped against the glass every time the wind came off the harbour. Nell had been given the job of the transfers because she had the steadiest hand, which was a lie, but nobody else had wanted to learn how to line up a curved strip of foil on a bony wrist without it creasing. She rubbed the spare sheet between her palms to warm it.

The bride came down at eleven in a borrowed cardigan, took one look at the box and asked why there were eight. Nell had counted seven women on the list and bought one extra in case somebody cried off, which was how she came to have a bride sheet folded in her jeans pocket, the looped word with its long sweeping underline. Nobody had asked for it. She had meant to give it to Maureen, who had driven down with the flowers and never once sat down.

The bride pressed the sheet flat with the heel of her hand and laughed when the gold came away in one clean word. 'You have to be on the team too,' she said, so Nell lifted the backing, pressed the word onto her own wrist and held it while the harbour light came through the balcony glass and caught the foil, bright enough to read from the stairs.
