Team Bride script with diamond on a forearm
Lettering · Forearm · Colour · Photo
A close photograph of a gold metallic temporary tattoo on the inner wrist and forearm. The words team and Bride are set in flowing script, with a small outlined diamond between them, shown against a pale carpet background. The foil-like finish gives the lettering a soft, shimmering gold colour.

The officer took your passport, looked up at your face, then down at your wrist, and said nothing for a long moment. You knew what he was thinking. In the back of the car the bride was asleep under a pink sash, snoring gently against a carrier bag of prosecco corks, and Marguerite was humming something from a musical about sailors. You were the only one awake enough to hold a steering wheel.

He stamped the page and waved you through. Somewhere past Calais, with rain smearing the windscreen, the transfers began to lift at the edges. By the time you pulled into the hotel the word Team had worn away to a grey ghost on your skin, and Bride had softened into a loop of gold that might have been anything. Marguerite woke, blinked at the car park lamps, and asked whether the sash was still on. You said yes. She asked whether you still were. You looked down at the diamond, the only piece holding its shape, and decided that was enough to be going on with.
