Handwritten Friday Love lettering design
Lettering · Black and grey · Flash
A hand-drawn design of the words Friday and Love written in looping black script on a plain white background. The heart replaces the letter o in Love, and a small dot follows the word. The fine, even linework is solid black ink with no shading or colour.

The band at the Crown Rooms had started their second waltz when Nell came in through the side door with rain flattened in her hair. "You got my note, then," she said. It had been folded small and tucked inside her cloakroom ticket for a week, written in the pencil hand I'd practised on the back of a ration book: Friday, love. I had let the o go and put a heart where it belonged, because I had run out of words before I ran out of nerve. She had kept it. I could see the corner poking from her glove.
We danced once round the floor, badly, the way people do when they have been out of practice for four years. Her hand was cold through my shirt. Nobody cut in. Behind us the drummer counted off as if he had all night, and over by the doors Mr Farrow was shouting about the coal delivery that had gone to the wrong street.
At the end of the number she stopped, took the note from her glove, smoothed it flat against my lapel and tapped the small dot at the end with one fingernail. "Full stop?" she asked. "Or are you going to keep going?" I told her the dot was for later, when there was something worth putting after it. She laughed so loudly that the whole room turned round to look.
