Heart with lettering and sparkles flash design
Fine line · Black and grey · Flash
A black outline drawing of a heart containing the hand-lettered words TACOS BEFORE VATOS in capital letters. Small four-point sparkles and two simple five-petal flowers sit around the heart, with a short sparkle mark below its left side. The linework is thin and even on a plain white background, with no shading or colour.

The third lad to ask for a refund on his carnitas was still hovering by the van when Dolores flipped the last tortilla onto the griddle, its edges blistering. "Mate, it's just pork," she said, not looking up. "Pork with opinions."

Behind her the orchard ran down to the river in rows of Bramley trees, heavy and yellow, with windfalls already going soft in the grass. It was the last Saturday of August, and the cider farm had paid her forty quid to park by the gate. Her nephew Tomás had painted the sign on the side of the van the week before, a fat pink heart with words he'd copied from a joke he didn't fully understand: TACOS BEFORE VATOS. Half the village thought it was a lovely sentiment. The other half had started queuing.
Dolores wiped her hands on her apron and watched the lad stalk off past a stack of crates, where two boys were teaching a spaniel to catch apples mid-air. Her knees ached. Her sister Ana would have laughed at all of it. Ana had always said the heart was the only honest thing about the van, because it at least admitted what it wanted.
By four the crowd had thinned to wasps and a stray flash of sun on the windscreen. Dolores counted the tin: a fiver in coins, two crumpled tenners, and a receipt for limes. She pulled an apple from the grass, bit into it, and found it sweet enough that she stopped minding the refund. Tomás would want the sign repainted in autumn. She'd let him, and tell him the vatos could wait.
