Heart with love, honesty and communication script
Black and grey · Flash
A bold black outline of a heart with a thick stroke, crossed by a sweeping ribbon band that carries the words love, honesty, and communication in flowing script. The design uses solid black ink on a plain white background with no shading or colour. The heart fills the centre of the frame, with the text running diagonally across it.

The sign outside Kestle Wells has lost its middle letters to the sun, so when you pull in for diesel the name reads only as a bare shape. Ruth at the till slides you a cold can without asking and says your brother rang the landline twice, which means he is sober enough to be frightened. You do not ask what he wanted. You already know the ledger between you: forty years of things left unsaid, and one truck that cost him his licence.

Past the cattle grid the road runs straight for an hour with nothing to steer by but the white centre line. You rehearse your opening sentence and it comes out wrong every time, too neat, like a eulogy. Then a jackrabbit darts across and you brake hard, and the shoebox of old letters in the footwell slides against the door. You remember the one he wrote you at nineteen from a motel in Barstow, folded into the shape of a heart because he had run out of envelopes.
The motel is gone now. The lot is a square of gravel with one blue plastic chair. Your brother is sitting in it when you arrive, hat pushed back, a bottle at his feet he has not opened. He stands slowly, the way a man does when he has waited too long to speak first.
"You came," he says.
"You asked," you say, and for once you do not look away.
