Here comes the sun handwritten script
Lettering · Black and grey · Flash
A single line of cursive handwriting reads "Here comes the sun." in black ink on a plain white background. The strokes are thin and even, with a looser, natural hand that gives the lettering a personal feel. The words fill the width of the frame with generous white space above and below.

The feed merchant's invoice was the only paper in the kitchen that wasn't a bill, so I turned it over and wrote on the back while the kettle ticked on the Aga. Outside the yard was still black, and the water trough had a skin of ice I'd have to break with the hammer before anything would drink. Dad had been up since four, Mrs Pryce from the next farm said, though nobody had seen him in the lambing shed since Tuesday.

I wrote to Tom, who went down to Bristol in October with a suitcase and a promise to ring on Sundays. He hasn't rung. I tried to write something sensible, about the price of hay and the Dutch barn roof that lets the rain in over the mangers, but the pen kept going back to the thing Dad used to bellow up the stairs every morning when the frost lifted off the top field. Here comes the sun, as if it had been waiting for his permission.
So I wrote that, in my bad joined-up hand, and under it: the top field's still white, but the ewes are fine and the bantams have started laying again. I didn't write that the kitchen is too quiet without the radio turned up. I folded the invoice in half, then in half again.
At seven the light came over the ridge, thin and yellow, and laid itself across the frosted yard as if someone had poured it. I pinned the note to the corkboard by the back door, under the calendar still stuck on October, and went out to break the ice.
