Homer Simpson in a Misfits shirt on ribs
Ribs · Mixed · Photo
The tattoo shows Homer Simpson drawn in a bold black outline with both arms raised and one hand making a horns gesture. He wears a black shirt printed with a grey and black skull and red Misfits lettering. The shading is solid black and grey, with small areas of red in the lettering, and the design fills the side of the torso above a pair of patterned underwear waistband.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
The Ritz on Marlow Pier had a sprung floor, a cloakroom that smelled of wet wool, and a regular called Dennis Pyle who came in every Saturday wearing the same black tee with a grinning skull across the chest. I ran the cloakroom that winter because my mum had her knee done. Dennis never queued. He just leaned on the hatch with both arms already up over his head, like a man who'd scored at football, pulled two fingers into the devil's horns and said, "Keep my coat warm, love."

Nobody had ever told him the skull belonged to a band. He thought it was a badge for being miserable and cheerful at the same time. He'd tell me how he got the shirt off a stall in Rotherham market, how the lettering was red as a warning, and how the bloke on the stall swore it was real. I didn't care much. I cared about the tickets, the three-pound coat tokens, and the way he always slipped me an extra pound for the tin and said it was for the pair of us.
In March the DJ played the record nobody had asked for, a slow-burning stomper from before any of us were born. The whole floor went up. Two hundred arms, fists and horns, all raised at the mirror ball as if the ceiling had finally opened. Dennis was in the middle of it, shouting something I couldn't hear over the bass.
I stood at the hatch with a coat over each arm and realised I was holding my own hands up too, fingers folded into horns, the way you would for a mate. I put the coats down. Dennis's ticket stayed in my apron pocket for a week before I gave it back to him, still warm from my hand.
