I Love you more and I Love you most designs

Lettering · Mixed · Flash

Two stacked tattoo designs in a flowing monoline script, reading I Love you more and I Love you most. Each has a black looping line that wraps beneath the words and a small solid green heart sitting on the curve. The linework is clean and even on a plain white background, with black lettering dominating and only the hearts in green.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction

The argument had started over the last crate of Discovery apples and somehow ended on who loved whom more, which Margaret said was a ridiculous thing to measure in a shed that smelled of wet cardboard. Tom said measuring was the whole point. He pulled a pencil from behind his ear and wrote on the lid of the crate, I love you more, then looked at her over his glasses as if that settled it.

She took the pencil off him and wrote underneath, I love you most, pressing so hard the lead snapped. They laughed until the ladder rocked. Outside, the orchard ran down to the brook in long green rows, the early windfalls already gone brown in the grass, and somewhere a wood pigeon kept saying the same two notes as if it had lost count.

They did it again the next September, and the one after, until the crate lids were a ledger of pencil marks and neither of them would admit to keeping score. The year Tom's hands got too stiff to hold the pencil, Margaret wrote both lines herself, a little wobbly, and drew a small green heart on the curve of the bough between them so the words had somewhere to rest.

He read it from the chair by the window, where he could see the trees. He didn't say which of them had won. He just asked her to fetch the last crate down before the frost.
