Infinity and Mickey Mouse outline tattoo
Fine line · Black and grey · Photo
A close-up of a single-line outline tattoo in which an infinity symbol forms the base of a Mickey Mouse head and ears. Below it, a handwritten script quote runs across the frame and is cut off at the edges, so only part of the words are readable. The image is black ink on skin with soft, even lighting and a tight crop.

Someone had written FRANK on the tin in green pencil. She carried it into the lounge of Gull Cottage, where the wallpaper had faded to the colour of weak tea, and set it on the table beside the bowl of boiled sweets.

Frank had always been the one who knew how to join things. He had cut the film into a loop, she saw when she held it to the window, so the last frame met the first with no leader and no end. A small round-eared mouse ran across the screen in a single unbroken line of black ink, tipped his hat, stopped, and started again, as if the world had no way out of its own cheerfulness.
Teddy Voss, the lodger who had kept the Point light for thirty years before his knees gave out, came in with his slippers flapping and sat without being asked. He watched the mouse go round four times before he spoke. "Your Frank did that splice himself," he said. "Didn't trust the men at the works."
Ada did not answer. She turned the handle and the beam lit the far wall, the mouse came marching out of the dark, and outside the sea kept on doing what it had always done, arriving and leaving, arriving and leaving, with nobody ever asking it to stop.
