Infinity heart symbol on a forearm
Fine line · Forearm · Black and grey · Photo
A single black outline of an infinity symbol, where each loop curls into a heart shape, sits across the forearm. The linework is thin and even, with no shading or fill, and the ink is solid black against the skin. The tattoo is centred in a close, slightly angled shot, with a black cord bracelet at the wrist and denim visible behind the arm.

The cord had to be spliced before the bell rang, and Tertia's fingers were already slick with tallow when the master came down the ropewalk shouting for the last hank. She had laid the strands herself, three to a turn, the way Sabinus had taught her, walking backwards along the stone path while the hemp twisted tight behind her. Her shoulders burned. The sea wind pushed grit into her eyes.

Sabinus crouched over the two ends with a bone marlinspike and a frown. "It won't close," he said. "You've put a kink in the lay. Cut it and start again." She shook her head and drew one loop through another, and the cord folded back on itself in a shape she had seen only once, scratched by a child into the wall of the granary: two curls meeting at a point, each one swelling into a heart before it turned back to join the other.
"That's not a knot," Sabinus said slowly.
"It doesn't have to end," she said. "Follow it with your thumb."
He did, his lips moving, and when his thumb came round to where it had started he said nothing at all. Then he took the marlinspike and, with a grunt, tucked the last strand under the first. The splice held. Tertia coiled the rope into the cart herself, one unbroken ring after another, and did not mention that the hemp had rubbed her palm raw, or that the loops were tacky with blood by the time the bell finally rang.
