Infinity symbol tattoo designs with words
Lettering · Black and grey · Flash
Six black line drawings of infinity symbols sit on a white background, each paired with a different word or phrase such as strength, faith, love, hope and fate. Some designs use bold outlines, while others use thin handwritten script that follows the loop of the symbol. All are drawn in black ink with no shading or colour.

Strength, she wrote first, in capitals that followed the bend of the rail. Then faith, then hope, then a line about finite disappointments that she copied from a library book and never finished, because the council painted over it on the Tuesday.

I was nine that spring and had been given the job of counting the loops. Her idea was that the walkway ran round the block in one unbroken figure of eight, so if you started at the bin store and walked it, you ended where you began, only with more knees. She made me count out loud. Fourteen circuits took us until the streetlights came on, and at every corner she said the same thing, that you could carry a word all the way round and still not wear it out.
The last time I saw her she was sitting on the bench by the bins with a biro, drawing a sideways eight on the back of a council letter. The lift had finally been mended that week, and she didn't go up in it. She said she'd rather go round. I got up to the flat and looked down, and the loop she'd drawn was already printed in the rain on the paving, the words running through it like a bit of string.
