Infinity symbol designs with script words
Fine line · Black and grey · Flash
Several hand-drawn infinity symbol designs are sketched in thin black ink on paper, some with script words woven through the loops and others with small heart motifs. The words include love, faith, peace, hope, you, me, infinity and young, along with the phrases an infinity and beyond and live the life you love. The linework is fine and even, with no shading, and the pale paper and black pen give the sheet a soft, vintage tone.

You sit on the harbour wall at Porthkerris with the black fineliner your sister left in your coat, the ferry timetable folded under your knee because the wind keeps trying to take it. The gulls are squabbling over a chip paper. Across the water the lighthouse does its slow count, and you start drawing loops on the back of the timetable, because your hand needs something to do that isn't waiting.

The first loop comes out lopsided. The second is better. By the fourth you've stopped watching the slipway and started thinking about Mags at the chandlery, who once told you a good splice is judged by the crossing, not the ends. You write hope inside one loop and faith inside the other, then you and me in the lobes of a figure that looks more like a pair of spectacles than anything holy.
Gordon from the lifeboat shed comes along with two teas in paper cups and looks over your shoulder. He reads the words out slowly, the way he reads the tide tables, and says the whole thing is just a sideways eight that never reaches the end. You tell him that's the point. He snorts, says every drawing in this town is a rope somebody couldn't finish, and hands you the tea anyway.
The ferry's horn sounds at half past. You fold the timetable with the loops facing in and tuck it into your pocket, where the ink will soon blur against your thumb. When you step off at the far slip, the paper will be soft and creased, and you will still be able to make out the word hope.
