Mario and Princess Peach forearm tattoos
Forearm · Colour · Photo
Two forearms are held side by side, each carrying a colour tattoo of a classic video game character. The left arm shows Princess Peach with blonde hair, a golden crown and a pink dress, and the right arm shows Mario in his red cap and blue overalls, both with dark outlines and flat fills. The image is well lit and shows both tattoos clearly against the skin, with the arms cropped so no faces are visible.

The cook of the Tern Dunmore died of a fever off Cape Wrath in the autumn, and the stokers, who knew nothing of bread, drew straws for the galley. Mario Terraza, a Liverpool stoker who would not take off his red cap even at table, drew the short one. He stood over the iron range with flour to his elbows and cursed it in three languages, and the only thing that kept him company was the lamp swinging above the table.

Then Peach Harrow came up the ladder. She was the purser's niece, with a pink shawl round her shoulders and a circlet she had cut from a biscuit tin and painted gold. She said the galley was a kingdom and the range was its heart, and a kingdom needed a keeper. "Then keep it," he said. She laughed and showed him how to rake the embers so the loaves rose without scorching. Every night they worked together, and every night the bread came out better.
In the third week a squall rolled the ship onto her side and the pantry door tore off its hinges. Mario went down the companionway in the dark with the lamp, and found Peach pinned under a fallen sack of flour, her ankle caught. He lifted the sack, then the beam, and carried her up into the wind, his cap soaked flat against his head. After that, nobody on the Tern Dunmore called him a stoker again.
When the ship made Leith in spring, the purser gave them a tin of ginger biscuits to share. Peach ate hers on the quay, licking her fingers, and wrote the recipe on the lid of a crate. Mario kept the crate, and the tin, and the gold circlet, which he wore on the ship's last voyage as proudly as any crown.
