Matching cat portraits with name banners
Realism · Other · Colour · Photo
Two side-by-side tattoos show realistic portraits of tabby cats with fine fur detail, soft shading and lit eyes. Each cat sits within a splash of teal or purple, with swirling leaf-like scrollwork and a ribbon banner bearing a name in lettering. The colour is rich and saturated, and the two portraits mirror each other in composition.

Sit down, you lot, and mind the nets. No, the other end of the bench, where the gulls can't reach your chips. Now. You want to know how the harbour cats got their names, and I'll tell you, though Mrs Pollard swears it was a bag of stale bread and nothing more.

Noodle was the grey-striped one, always first on the slipway when the boats came in, tail up like a question mark. Chewie was the other, broader in the chest, with a face like a wet Sunday. Two tabbies from the same Hartley litter, and they hated each other with a loyalty that outlasted the Harbour Master's three wives.
The trouble came the winter the Maud Eliza went down off the breakwater. Her cargo of tinned peaches washed up along the quay for a month, and every cat in town grew fat on them. Except Noodle and Chewie, who fought over one tin on the steps until the lid split and the syrup ran into the gutter. They sat either side of the spill, glaring, with peach on their whiskers, and neither would give an inch.
Then the bell on the lifeboat house began to ring, and both of them went flat-eared and ran for the same gap in the wall. Chewie got stuck halfway through. Noodle doubled back, took the scruff of his neck, and hauled him out, and neither ever mentioned it again. That's the whole tale. Mind the nets on your way out.
