Black and grey linework finger bands on two hands held together: a heart within scrolling waves on one finger and a trident above waves on the other.

Matching heart and trident finger bands

Hand · Black and grey · Photo

Two hands are held together, each finger wearing a thin band tattoo. The finger on the left carries a heart framed by scrolling lines, and the finger on the right carries a trident above a wave pattern. The lines are solid black on a pale background, with light shading on the skin and a plain, uncluttered composition focused on the fingers.

Every so often he called out a suggestion, and every so often she told him where he could put it.

The fair was called Neptune's Revels. Her grandfather had painted the sign as a joke, and somewhere along the way the joke had stopped being funny and become simply the name. Each spring the trident on the front of the big wheel needed touching up, and each spring Teddy asked why a sea god would need a fork to run a funfair. Nell said it was to keep the waves in line. He said that was the most sensible thing anyone on the coast had ever told him.

Just before six the bolt turned all at once, the way stubborn things do when they have finally decided to be sensible. The waltzer shuddered, groaned, and began to spin, its painted horses lurching up and down under the bulbs that had not yet been switched off. Teddy whooped from the step and nearly dropped his jar. Nell wiped her hands on her overalls and watched the first grey light slide across the water, rolling in and out over the same stretch of sand, never once stopping to ask for permission.
