Matching rose and heart wrist tattoos
Traditional · Forearm · Colour · Photo
Two wrists are shown side by side, each with a colour tattoo of a red rose with green leaves set inside an open blue heart outline. The lower tattoo has the word Mom in black script, while the upper one has a rotated script word that is difficult to read. The bold outlines and solid colour fills are clean and evenly applied, and the two designs are placed close together on a plain skin background.

Frost had got into the yard tap again, and Nell Harcourt stood over the kettle in the back kitchen waiting for the pipes to decide whether they would bother. Her mother's rose cutting sat in a jam jar on the windowsill, three pale roots forming in the water like hair. Nobody had told her roses could be started in winter. Her mother had told her everything else.

Her sister Bridget came in stamping snow off her wellingtons, carrying the post and a brown envelope from the milk board. 'They want the herd numbers by Friday,' she said. 'And Mum's asked again whether we've been up to the top field.' Nell said nothing. The top field had a gate that wouldn't shut and a stone wall that had come down on the far side the autumn their father died, and neither of them had walked it since.
They went out at dusk with a torch and the dog. The wind had dropped, and the sky was the colour of pewter over the beeches. At the wall they found the old wild rose their mother had pruned for thirty years, now sprawling through the gap with hips like small red lamps. Bridget knelt in the wet grass and worked a stem free, the thorns catching at her glove. 'She'd want us to take it,' she said. 'Not leave it for the frost.'
Back in the kitchen they potted the cutting beside the jar and wrote on a luggage label in Bridget's round hand: Mum's, top field. Nell pinned it to the windowsill with a clothes peg. The kettle finally boiled, and for once neither of them moved to answer the post.
