Metallic gold geometric temporary tattoo sheet
Geometric · Mixed · Flash
A sheet of five vertical bands of geometric designs printed in metallic gold foil on a pale grey background. The designs include nested diamonds with small black squares, a lattice of triangles, a chevron band, a row of dots and a grid of diamonds. The linework is fine and even, and the composition is symmetrical and evenly spaced down the sheet.

The nets came up gold that spring, and nobody in Carrow Haven could say why. Tamsin Reid hauled the first of them over the gunwale at first light, the mesh strung with triangles of light that flaked onto her wet wrists like pollen. Her son Davie wanted them loaded onto the cart before the tide turned and the merchant from the inland road changed his mind. Tamsin told him to leave the nets where they lay and count the herring instead.

They counted for a week. The chevrons on the head-rope ran in rows like herring bones laid end to end, and the cork floats along the line were strung with dots of gold, one for every fish the boat had taken. Each evening the skipper's wife walked the harbour wall and tallied the dots against the catch. Every night the number came up short by one. Nobody could find where the missing fish had gone, and the gold kept spreading, diamond by diamond, along the cords of every net in the fleet.
On the eighth day the wind backed to the north-east and the Brannock did not come home. Davie found his mother on the slip at dusk with her knife open, cutting a golden length of lattice from the stern. She had already cut the rest loose from her own boat. "It was never ours to sell," she said. "It was the count, and we owed it." She wrapped the last of the gold triangles round a grey stone and dropped it off the wall.
In May the fleet went out again and came back with plain grey nets and full holds, and on the head-rope of every boat a single gold diamond had been left caught in the mesh, bright as a coin, where the sea had given it back.
