Metallic Western temporary tattoo sheet

Colour · Flash

A flat sheet of metallic temporary tattoo designs on a white backdrop, placed on a white fluffy surface. Motifs include a central longhorn skull with a black ornamental heart, two revolvers, horseshoes, stars, feathered arrows and two bands of paisley and dotted coin patterns. The designs are rendered as solid metallic foil in gold, copper and pale blue, with black accents, and are arranged in a balanced layout across the sheet.

Dear Ada,

The crate came up on Tuesday's stage, and I have not yet found the nerve to open the lid on the sheep-dip order, because Mr Pruitt at the mercantile settled his debt with a sheet of gilt transfers from a Chicago house. He swore they were flash enough to make a Sunday hat look like a bank. There are three revolvers, a horseshoe for every lucky man in Callow Springs, a row of stars, and a longhorn skull with a black lace heart pressed right into its forehead, as if the animal had a sweetheart it never mentioned.

Jesse Varnell, the sheriff's boy, took the skull for himself before anyone could argue. He pressed it to the inside of his wrist, licked his thumb to set it, and swaggered out to meet the Hollis brothers at noon. The transfers would not hold to anything but a dry hand, so by the time he reached the trough the horns had sweated half away and the copper star had slid down to his knuckle. Still, the Hollis boys took one look at the glint on his arm and reckoned the sheriff had brought a whole posse. They laid their pistols on the trough rail without a word.

Nobody in town believes the story as Jesse tells it, but the gilt is still on his wrist, bright as a new coin, and he has been sleeping with his arm outside the blanket so the moon can find it.

I am sending the bandana strip along with this letter, dotted coins and all. Keep one for the wedding, and burn the rest before your mother sees the flash.

Yours in dust and foil, Walter
