Ornate oval frame with sunset landscape
Neo-trad · Other · Colour · Photo
An ornate oval frame holds a scene of a star-filled night sky fading into clouds, a blue and orange sunset band and dark mountain silhouettes. A stylised orange flower with green leaves sits at the base of the frame. Bold black outlines, smooth colour gradients and a dense decorative border give the piece a neo-traditional look.

Nobody else was up on Harrow Lane at that hour except the milk float and Mrs Adeyemi, who walked her terrier past the shutter every morning at twenty past four and never once came in. This morning she did. She pressed her nose to the glass and said the sky looked like one of those old oval photographs in her mother's front room, the ones with the painted border and the little dark hills along the bottom. We stood there with our breath fogging the pane while the clouds above the rooftops caught fire, first a thin rose line, then orange spreading under the grey like someone lifting a lid. The chimney pots turned into mountains. Mrs Adeyemi tapped the glass and said that the sky had been waiting all night for a border, and the terrier barked at nothing.
I took the first cob loaves out and set them on the rack by the door, still ticking as they cooled. The star had gone pale. I chalked its position on the board beside the day's orders, under bread, under milk, under nothing else, and went back to the dough.
