Pooh and Piglet walking in snow on an upper arm
Upper arm · Mixed · Photo
The tattoo shows Winnie the Pooh seen from behind and a smaller Piglet walking across a snowy scene, with a line of footprints leading towards them. A bare tree with fine black branches stands on the right, and a fallen branch lies across the snow in the foreground. The characters are filled with yellow and red, while the trees, branches and soft grey shading of the sky and ground are in black and grey.

Now sit close, because the snow in that part of the world never stays put for long, and the trick is to keep your feet where you can see them. Piglet had been trotting behind the Bear since breakfast, which was a very long time ago, and his legs had stopped feeling like his own somewhere past the bridge.

Pooh walked on ahead with his back to him, humming at the snow as if it owed him a tune. Every few steps he stopped, looked down at the prints beside him and nodded, pleased. "Those are ours," he said. "Every one. Nobody else in this wood leaves a print with a round tummy in it." Piglet glanced back at the trail stretching behind them, a neat line of dips and hollows winding off between the bare trees, and it seemed to him that it went on for ever.
They came to the fallen branch lying across the snow, the one that looked like a black hand reaching out of the ground, and there, coming towards them out of the white, were the same prints. The same round dips. The same small hollow steps. Piglet stood very still and counted them, and the count came out just as it had before. Pooh scratched his head and considered the matter for a good while. "Ah," he said at last. "That will be me coming back."
So if you ever find footprints in the snow that look exactly like your own, don't hurry to meet them. Sit down under the tree, have a biscuit, and wait. The Bear always comes round again, and he always brings the path with him.
