R2-D2 and C-3PO banner tattoos on thighs
Traditional · Thigh · Colour · Photo
Two colour tattoos sit side by side on a pair of thighs, one showing R2-D2 in blue, grey and red and the other showing C-3PO in gold and tan. Each droid has bold black outlines and is framed by a scroll banner with quote lettering, with roses and sunflowers filling the spaces around them. The shading is smooth and each design is centred on its thigh against a plain background.

The fog had come in off the Dogger so thick that Ruth could not see the bow rail, only hear the tinny chirrup from the wheelhouse that meant Bert's old repair droid was offering its opinion again. Dolly had been built from a gutted freezer unit and a bread-van winch, and it spoke with the prim worry of a clerk who had been left in charge of the lifeboat.

Forty years of hauling nets had taught Ruth one rule: never ask the sea for odds. Bert had asked. He had rung the harbour office the night before, boasting that the Marigold would fill the Thursday quota in a single tow, and the wind had been listening.
Now the net was snagged on something under the bottom and the winch was groaning like a beast in a barn. Dolly rolled to the edge of the deck, its brass plates flickering amber. "Probability of cable failure," it announced, "approximately one in three." Bert, grey and sweating, laughed until he coughed. "Hear that? Thirty-three percent. We'll take those."
Ruth took the lever herself. She fed the cable slow, the way her father had taught her, and felt the snag give with a shiver up her arms. The net rose streaming, heavy with cod and a rusted anchor that someone had lost on purpose years ago. Dolly's lamp blinked twice, and then it said nothing at all, which from Dolly was as close to an apology as the sea ever got.
