Small bird tattoo on upper back
Back · Black and grey · Photo
A woman is photographed from behind, wearing a black sports bra with crossed mint green straps. Three small black bird shapes sit on her upper back near the shoulder blade, rendered in simple solid black ink. The plain white background keeps the focus on the tattoo and the back.

A story inspired by this tattoo · fiction
The fishing village of Carrow had a saying that three swifts on the sea wall meant a boat would come home. Nobody remembered who first said it, only that the old harbour master wore the same green cord around his wrist for forty years, tied in a knot that crossed twice and pulled tight.

When his grandson Tam went out past the headland in a storm, the cord was in the boy's pocket, and the swifts were gone from the wall. Tam's mother walked the shingle until the tide turned, counting birds that were not there.
Near dawn the boat came round the point with its sail torn to ribbons. Tam sat in the bow, hands raw from bailing, and the cord had come loose from his wrist somewhere in the dark. Three black shapes rose from the rocks and circled the mast once, then flew off east toward the cliffs where they had always nested.
Tam's mother never learned whether the birds had guided them or simply fled the weather, and the village did not argue about it. The next spring she tied a new cord, crossed it twice, and hung it on the sea wall beside the nest, where it stayed until the wind took it.
