Small black cat silhouette on a wrist

Fine line · Hand · Black and grey · Photo

A small solid black silhouette of a seated cat, shown from behind with its tail curling to the left, sits on the inner wrist. The shape is filled with dense black ink, with crisp edges and no visible shading or interior detail. The background is dark and the skin is lit warmly, which keeps the focus on the tattoo at the centre of the frame.

Since you left, I've had the leeks in, and the runner beans have climbed the netting faster than I thought possible. Every evening at six she sits on the third step with her back to me and her tail wrapped round her feet, watching the bottom of the garden where the fox comes through the gap in the fence. She never looks round. I've decided that is her way of being polite.

Last Tuesday the fox came early and she didn't move at all. I stood at the back door with the kettle going cold and waited for something to happen, a yowl or a rush, and nothing did. The fox nosed at the compost, looked at her, and trotted off the way it came. Afterwards she stretched, shook one paw, and walked straight past my shins into the kitchen as though she had arranged the whole thing.

Write back and tell me whether the ferns at the back survived the frost. I'll keep the cat on the step for you until then. She seems to think she's in charge of the place, and honestly, I'm not inclined to argue.
